Avaza Timesheets Desktop is a small time-tracking app for your Mac or Windows PC. Keep it open beside your work to start and stop timers, add entries and submit your week, without opening Avaza in a browser. It uses your Avaza account, so timers and entries sync with the web app and the phone apps: start a timer on your computer and stop it on your phone.

It isn't the same app as Avaza Timesheets for iPhone and Android. The desktop app has its own extras: a timer in the Mac menu bar, keyboard shortcuts, favourite timesheets, and light and dark mode.

Install and sign in

Open the app and sign in with the same login you use for Avaza on the web.

You need the same things as on the web: the Timesheet/Expense User role (or Administrator), membership of a project with Timesheet entry allowed? turned on, and timesheet categories on that project. See getting started with timesheets. The app also needs an internet connection.

Track time

The window shows one day, with the week bar and each day's total above it. Click the arrows or a day to move around. You can resize the window and move it wherever suits you, for example docked at the side of your screen.

  • New entry: click + at the bottom left. Choose the project and category, and a task if you like, then enter a duration and notes and save.
  • Edit or delete: click an entry to change or delete it. You can also right-click an entry to edit it, delete it or start a timer on it.
  • Timers: start and stop a timer in the app, from the Avaza icon in the Mac menu bar, or with a keyboard shortcut. The menu bar shows the running timer. Only one timer runs at a time: see how timers work.
  • Favourites: click the star in an entry's edit window to add it to your favourites. The star button at the bottom of the app lists them, and one click starts a timer with that project, category and task.
  • Submit: click ⋮ at the top right, choose Submit Week for Approval and confirm. See timesheet approvals.

Your account's rules apply as they do on the web, such as required tasks or notes, locked entries and approval. See locking timesheets.

Shortcuts and appearance

Keyboard shortcuts start or stop a timer, create a new entry, and show or hide the app. You can change the keys in the app's preferences, where you can also switch between light and dark mode.
