The Avaza Chat apps put Avaza Chat on your phone and computer, with notifications for new messages. It's the same chat as in your browser, so your direct messages, channels and task discussions are the same everywhere.

Before you start

  • You need access to Chat: the Chat User role, or Admin. Without it, the app says "You don't have access to the Chat module". Ask an Admin to tick Chat User on your contact. See getting started with chat.
  • You need an Avaza login. Accept your Avaza invitation email first, then sign in to the app with the same details.
  • External contacts who've been given the Chat User role can use the apps too, with the same options as in the browser. See chat for external contacts.

Install the app

The apps need an internet connection.

  1. Open Avaza Chat and sign in with the email address and password you use for Avaza, or choose Sign in with Google. On a phone, Google sign-in opens in a secure browser window and then returns to the app.

  2. On a phone, allow notifications when you're asked. On Android, the app also asks to use the microphone, for voice messages.

  3. Your conversations appear on the Messages screen, on the Direct and Channels tabs, and on Tasks if your role includes it.

On a phone, the ⋮ button next to Messages has Refresh, Switch Accounts (if you belong to more than one Avaza account) and Logout.

What you can do

Everything you can do in chat in the browser: start direct messages, create and join channels, post messages with formatting, @mention people, send files, and reply, react, edit or delete. The Tasks tab lists task discussions if you're an Admin, Project Collaborator or Portfolio Manager. See the Tasks tab.

On a phone, file downloads and Open Task in a task discussion open in your phone's browser.

Notifications

On a phone, you get a notification for new messages and @mentions in your direct messages and channels, and for new comments on tasks you follow. It shows who wrote, where, and the start of the message. Tap it to open the conversation or task. You aren't notified about the conversation you have open in the app, and opening the app clears its notifications.

On a computer, the app lets you know while it's running: new messages add a count to its icon in the Dock or taskbar, and you get a desktop notification when its window is minimised. Click the notification to open the conversation.

To silence a busy conversation for a while, open it and choose ⋮ › Notification Settings. To choose which events notify you, use Notification Settings in Avaza in your browser (click your profile picture). See notification settings.

No notifications on your phone? Check that notifications are allowed for Avaza Chat in the phone's settings, and that the conversation isn't muted. Logging out of the app stops notifications on that phone.

What the apps don't do

The Chat apps are for chat only. Projects, tasks, timesheets and the rest of Avaza stay in the browser or the other Avaza apps. Settings, such as switching chat on for your account or giving people the Chat User role, are only in Avaza in your browser, and so is the Notification Settings page.
